Aerobics

Regularly scheduled aerobics classes are offered throughout the week in-season at the Island Grand, and are included in the Explorer Value Pass. For a nominal fee, special aerobic classes for groups can be arranged by the recreation staff.

Beach

Whether you want to laze the day away in a hammock or beach cabana or soar in a parasail or ride a waverunner, the beach at TradeWinds offers the ultimate in fun under the sun. Located on a seven-mile strip of sugar-white sands overlooking the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the enthusiastic beach crew keeps a "toy box" stuffed with Frisbees, sandpails, shovels, floats & boogie boards. Beach paddleball, volleyball, badminton and tetherball offer the perfect challenge.

Cabanas

Beach cabanas for the exclusive use of TradeWinds guests are located behind each resort, and feature two reclining chaises, center table and adjustable sun/shade cover. Charge for cabana is included in the Explorer Value Pass.

Fitness Centers

The Explorer Value Pass provides guests with daily access to BodyWorks, the TradeWinds’ fully equipped fitness center. The center offers such equipment as LifeFitness treadmills, elliptical crosstrainers, recumbent and upright bikes, cable crossover machines, Fullbody Nautilus circuit, freeweights and Body Master equipment.

Golf

Tee times for play at some of the area’s best private and public courses may be made up to weeks and months in advance though our Golf Concierge. Located in the lobby at the TradeWinds Island Grand, PGA member Jack Lima has been serving the St. Petersburg/Clearwater golfing community for over 15 years, and can assist with course selection, reserve tee times for individual and group play, as well as coordinate tournaments for groups. With a climate promoting year-round play, pack your clubs and enjoy the many courses within a short drive of the TradeWinds resorts.

Hammocks

Rope hammocks are located beachfront at both the Sandpiper and the Island Grand resorts, and old-fashioned wooden swings at Sandpiper provide a welcome spot for "just letting go".

Paddelboats

Hop aboard a paddleboat (charge covered by Explorer Value Pass) for an exclusive tour of the Island Grand waterway, home to swans and a variety of Florida native waterfowl.

Pools

Heated pools for year-round comfort are located throughout the TradeWinds Island Resorts, and are open to all guests. Four pools are located at the Island Grand and two at the Sandpiper, while the Island Grand also features a children’s pool, wading area, and one designated as adults-only.

Tennis

Four Har-Tru clay courts are located at the Island Grand, and available for the exclusive use of all TradeWinds guests (charge covered by Explorer Value Pass). Reservations for court time should be made in advance. Group and private lessons are conveniently arranged.

The T.A.Z. staff will coordinate all aspects of the recreational experience for every member of your family or group. From aqua aerobics to family swim meets, Night Spiker volleyball to tennis clinics, this center is definitely where the action is. For a schedule of events, please see our Activity Schedule.
